Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake Hit Panama on January 7, 2014

WASHINGTON -- A strong, magnitude-6.6 earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Panama late Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake hit at 11:07 pm (0507 GMT) and its epicenter was in the Pacific Ocean about 150 miles (245 kilometers) south of the Panamanian city of Punta de Burica, the USGS said.

No tsunami warning was issued.
