EDSA Revolution Anniversary held in Cebu, City

AS EARLY as Monday noon, part of Cebu City will be closed to vehicular traffic in preparation for the People Power celebration at the Capitol on the anniversary of the 1986 Edsa Revolution on Tuesday.

The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom), Traffic Patrol Group, Cebu City Police Office and the Capitol released a media advisory on traffic closure in the next two days.

The road in front of the Capitol will be closed at noon of Feb. 24 for preparations of the celebration the next day.

Early preparation

The stretch from the corner of M. Velez/Don Gil Garcia Streets to corner Juana Osmeña will also be closed to vehicular traffic.

The event won’t be until Feb. 25, but Citom Executive Director Rafael Yap said Capitol wanted to prepare the place ahead of time.

President Benigno Aquino III will be attending the celebration.

On Tuesday, more streets will be closed, starting at 6 a.m. Osmeña Blvd to N. Escario St. will be closed to vehicular traffic, as well as the length of N. Escario St., or from M. Velez St. to corner Gorordo Ave.

Detour

Passenger jeepneys from Lahug/Apas/Ayala that are going downtown will take Gorordo Ave., make a right to Gen. Maxilom Ave., straight to Fuente Osmeña rotunda and then left to Osmeña Blvd.

From the downtown area, motorists will access Osmeña Boulevard but will turn right to Gen. Maxilom Ave. when nearing the rotunda. The vehicles will pass through Gorordo Ave. towards their destination.

Those coming from or going to the Guadalupe/Banawa area will pass through V. Rama Ave., B. Rodriguez St. and Osmeña Blvd.

Motorists are advised to follow traffic signs installed by Citom.

Fewer motorists will be affected by the road closure on Feb. 25 because it’s a special holiday. This means there are no classes all over the country.Feb. 24 is also Cebu City’s charter day. There will be no work for government and private sector employees in Cebu City. Cebu City schools have no classes as well. sunstar
