Updates: Powerful Magnitude 8.3 earthquake shook Chile capital on September 16, 2015. The earthquake was felt in large part of the country and many people were scared and some were panicked due to the 8.3 earthquake. The earthquake was down by USGS to 7.9 magnitude.

Authorities and other government agencies were alerted and rushing to the seen to provide comfort or needs to those affected. Chilean government recorded one death, a 25-year-old woman has died in Illapel, a town on the coast about 46km from where the earthquake hit.


She was reportedly killed by a falling wall. Another 20 have been injured.

Officials give a tsunami alert and reports shows there were waves more than 4.5 m high in Coquimbo, Chile



U.S. officials said the quake struck just offshore in the Pacific at 7:54 p.m. and was centered about 141 miles (228 kilometers) north-northwest of Santiago. It said the quake was 4.8 miles (5 kilometers) below the surface.
