Iranian Guard Ships Fired Shots on Singapore Vessels in Persian Gulf on May 14, 2015

Tension are rising in Persian Gulf after Iranian Guard ships fired shots on Singaporean merchant vessel navigating on the area on May 14, 2015 Thursday. The Pentagon confirmed the incident in the Arab sea.

The cargo ship, named the Alpine Eternity, was hailed by the Iranian vessels and did not respond, at which point the Iranian vessels fired a round of warning shots, a defense official confirmed on background.

The Singaporean vessel then headed toward the territorial waters of the United Arab Emirates for cover and hailed the UAE for assistance, at which point the Iranian vessels fired another round, the defense official said.

The UAE dispatched its coast guard ships, at which point the Iranian vessels turned away.

It's the latest provocation by Iranian vessels in the waters in and around the Arabian Peninsula.
