Six people, including a five-year-old boy, were trapped in an elevator in Ayala Center Cebu for about 40 minutes Saturday evening.

The elevator got stuck between the second and third floors of the mall's new wing.

According to Letecia Gamutin, the nanny of the five-year-old boy, Ilijah Bas, the light inside the elevator flickered a couple of times before it stopped.

Letecia, Ilijah, and his grandmother boarded the elevator while the boy's parents were out looking for a parking space.

No elevator attendant was present during the incident.

According to Joan Bas, the mother of the child, it took about 10 minutes before the elevator was opened and another 30 minutes before her son was safely taken out from the elevator.

It was Joan who called out for help after she received a phone call from the child's grandmother that the three of them and other three mall-goers were trapped.

The family said that they will file a complaint against the management of Ayala for not being prompt in responding and for lack of security measures. -- Carine Asutilla, ABS-CBN News
