Typhoon Basyang to Hit Philippines on January 31, 2014

Breaking News: The Low Pressure Area (LPA) east of Mindanao outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression and it is called "Basyang". Typhoon Basyang is expected to hit areas in Visayas, Mindanao where typhoon Agaton passed starting January 30 - 31, 2014. It was remembered that typhoon Agaton left 66 dead and over 200, 000 displaced. Residents in the said area are advised to take necessary precautions and take extra care for possible flash floods and landslides.

At 10:00 a.m. today, the center of tropical depression was estimated at 1,140 km east of Mindanao (8.2°N, 137.8°E). This weather system will not yet affect any part of the country. However, it is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this afternoon or evening.

The next update will be incorporated in the 5 p.m. public weather forecast or in a weather bulletin to be issued at 11:00 p.m. or earlier today.
