Devotees hijacked mass and took Black Nazarene before the mass of Archbishop Antonio Tagle finished January 9, 2014. It happened before the communion where in people singing "Cordero ng Diyos" but devotees gone to altar and took Nazarene. Devotees breached the security and security personnel failed to stop them.

The parish priest of Quiapo Church told Rappler it was the first time devotees did this. Quiapo Church has housed the image for the past 246 years.
